Cognition Clinic

The WiSE Cognition Clinic provides specialised assessment and support for individuals experiencing early changes in memory, thinking, and cognitive function. Our multidisciplinary team of neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, cardiologists and allied health professionals utilises evidence-based diagnostic tools to identify and monitor the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease and related cognitive conditions — enabling timely intervention and personalised care planning.

Early detection is central to our clinical approach and as such most of the diagnostics needed to get an accurate diagnosis are conducted on site, including:

  • Comprehensive cognitive evaluations – MMSE
  • Neuroimaging – CT, MRI, Echocardiogram, Carotid Dopplers and Amyloid PET scans
  • Biomarker analysis – APOE, P-Tau 217 and PTau 181

We work to establish an accurate diagnosis at the earliest possible stage. This allows our team to develop targeted management strategies that may slow cognitive decline, optimise daily functioning, and support both patients and their families through every stage of the journey.

WiSE is also at the forefront of treatment for cognitive disorders and can administer new and upcoming treatments to help alleviate the progression.

The Clinic can look after all aspects of cognitive impairment including:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Vascular Dementia
  • Lewy Body Dementia
  • Frontotemporal Dementia
  • Mixed Dementia
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
  • Subjective Cognitive Decline
  • Age-Related Cognitive Change

Dementia Infusions and Alternate Therapies

WiSE is one of only a few centers in Australia that is able to prescribe and perform the infusion for the brand-new Alzheimer’s drug Kisunla (Donanemab). This brand new drug is prescribed by the team in the cognition clinic and administered by experienced Emergency specialists in the WiSE Emergency clinic. Kisunla is a TGA approved drug that has only recently come to market and can treat mild to moderative Alzheimer’s disease. Patients do need to undergo assessment in the Cognition clinic to be prescribed this drug.

For those that do not meet the Kisunla criteria WiSE has established a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals that can help slow the effects of dementia. This includes Dieticians, Neurology specific Occupational therapists, Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists. The entire team work with our specalists to ensure the best outcome for those diagnosed with early onset dementia.
